Verses in Motion: Why This Poetry Toolkit Had to Be Made

There’s something sacred about watching a young person realize they have something to say—and the tools to say it powerfully. That’s the moment I’ve been chasing for years as an educator, artist, and creative coach.

But let’s be honest: traditional poetry instruction? It often kills the vibe. Rigid rules. Complex metaphors. Blank stares. And so many students—especially the ones with the most rhythm, the most story, the most soul—start believing poetry isn’t for them.

That’s why I created the Verses in Motion Poetry Toolkit.

Not as another classroom worksheet. Not as another ELA standard checklist but as an invitation.

An invitation for students to see poetry not just as a form—but as expression. To experience it through movement, sound, self-reflection, and confidence-building. Whether they write quietly or perform with fire, this toolkit helps them tap into something real.

Inside the bundle, you'll find:

  • A vibrant PowerPoint Presentation that walks students through various poetic forms with clarity and style

  • A Printable Toolkit that defines terms, offers visual breakdowns, shares original examples, and encourages student response

  • A Reflection Page designed to help students evaluate what they've learned—not just academically, but emotionally

  • A clear License Page so educators and facilitators know exactly how they can use it

This is a print-only resource—intentionally so. These are non-editable PDFs and slides designed to be printed and used. Why? Because I want teachers and creatives to be present with their students. Less time modifying slides. More time engaging with young minds and watching them light up.

This toolkit is the first of many in my growing MartyBeSolutions resource library. And it’s personal. Every lesson, every example, every layout choice was made with intention—to honor creativity, identity, and legacy.

So if you’re looking for something that teaches the “how” of poetry without losing the “why”…If you want a resource that blends performance with purpose…If you believe that students should feel seen in what they write and how they write it…

Then Verses in Motion is for you.

This is just the beginning. Let’s move the words—and the world—with them.
